Joseph (Joe) Dell Leonard

Picture
Joseph (Joe) Dell Leonard, age 55, passed away on December 18, 2022.
He was born June 22, 1967, in Duluth, MN, the son of Jerome and Donna Leonard. Joe married the love of his life, Lana on September 17, 1999. He is survived by wife Lana, daughters Sami and Brenna, son Sully, mother Donna, brothers Pat (Molly), Mike (Sharon), Dave (Shane), nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family. Preceded in death by his father Jerry. Joe graduated from Duluth Central in 1985 and went on to attend the University of Minnesota Duluth. Joe worked at Old Republic Title Insurance Company as an IT Architect before his diagnosis of Frontotemporal Dementia.

Joe was passionate about many things, most of all his family. He loved working with his hands and took pride in the remodel of his home and was always searching for his next project. He built gymnastic equipment for the kids as well as an elaborate snowboard ramp in the back yard. Joe loved to be active, he was an avid water-skier and grew up spending hours on the lake perfecting his technique. His happy place was the family cabin on Lake Nebagamon. In his adulthood, Joe continued his passion for being active by running marathons, biking, and skating. Joe's childhood involved playing hockey and he continued with his love of the sport as a coach for his son's hockey team. He also was artistic, loved photography, cooking and entertaining. Unfortunately, Joe succumbed to his disease after a five-year battle; he was a fighter and stayed strong until the very end.
His memorial service will be held at Halcyon Cemetery and Gathering Center, 11050 50th St N, Lake Elmo on Thursday, Dec. 29th. There will be a visitation at 2 pm followed by a service at 3:00 pm.
A reception of hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer (in honor of Joe) will immediately follow the service.
Memorials can be directed to The Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration theaftd.org
